Emergency treatment

If you’re experiencing pain, swelling or have concerns that can’t wait, get in touch.

Support every day of the year

However conscientious you are, life can be unpredictable, and accidents happen.

Whether it’s pain, swelling, you’ve broken a tooth or just need some helpful advice, support is available to you as a White Gables Dental Practice patient.

Even out of hours and at weekends, we work with selected practices in North Wales to make sure help is always just a phone-call away.

What to do in an emergency

During normal opening hours, just contact the practice so we can help.

Call: 01492 532554
Mon-Thu 8:30-5:00 / Fri 8:30-4:00 (excluding bank holidays)

If you need treatment outside these hours, still contact us… a recorded message will give you the information you’ll need to get in touch with an on-call dentist.

Alternatively, NHS 111 offer out of hours care and information.

NHS services include weekend clinics in Anglesey, Gwynedd, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire, and Wrexham.

If you’re in severe pain, are bleeding heavily or have injuries to your face, mouth, or teeth, you may need to go to A&E for urgent treatment.

What treatments are available?

Out of business hours, we usually focus on the treatment of:

Pain – this could involve a dental filling or extraction, but we’ll discuss available options once we’ve assessed your individual circumstances.

Swelling – this is usually caused by infection, so you may need to be started on a course of antibiotics before further treatment can be planned.

Damaged teeth – depending on the situation, we’ll look to stabilise teeth and fill or dress any damage, improving how your teeth feel and (if possible) look.

Missing teeth – if a bridge or veneer has broken off, it could be possible to re-cement them. If you’ve lost a natural tooth, we’ll look to stabilise any areas of trauma first.

It’s useful to know that we may need to take x-rays to investigate the root of the problem. We’ll also need to understand your medical history so we can suggest suitable treatment options for you.

You may need a follow-up appointment with your regular dentist to address any longer-term dental health or cosmetic needs. At an emergency appointment, your immediate needs come first, simply aiming to make you feel more comfortable.

If it’s not a major emergency

Providing you’re a White Gables Dental Practice patient, you can still get in touch if you’ve got a question, but don’t necessarily need to see a dentist urgently.

You might like to do this if you’ve recently received treatment and need aftercare advice, or you need recommendations on managing mild dental pain at home.

The on-call dentist should be able to advise whether you need urgent treatment, should seek emergency treatment at a hospital, or could wait to see your regular dentist. The latter is always preferable, as your own dentist knows your teeth, treatment history and preferences.

At White Gables Dental Practice, we reserve time each weekday for any registered patients who need help in an emergency. Simply get in touch and we’ll get you booked into the next available slot.

What does an emergency appointment cost?

If you just need out of hours advice over the phone, there isn’t usually a cost for this. However, if you need an appointment, a call out fee might apply.

The on-call dentist will be able to provide all information you need.

If you pay as you go with your dentist, you’ll need to cover the out of hours call-out fee yourself, costing £165. That may sound expensive, but it covers staffing costs for a dentist and nurse, surgery expenses and the emergency treatment you’ll receive.

Patients who spread the cost of treatment with Denplan may be covered for emergency treatment, depending on the circumstances:

Within 40 miles of your usual dental practice – simply call the practice and follow the instructions given. You’ll need your Denplan policy number to hand. The dentist you see will manage all of the paperwork, so you don’t have to.

More than 40 miles from your dental practice – if you’ve got supplementary insurance, Denplan can help you to find a local dentist who can help. Alternatively, arrange an appointment and you may be able to claim the cost back from Denplan.

Outside of the UK – if you’ve got supplementary insurance, arrange an appointment and you may be able to claim the cost back from Denplan.

If you pay for treatment and you want to claim the cost back against your Denplan policy, make sure you keep hold of any receipts.
