However, in the nicest possible way, we don’t expect to see you that often… usually just once or twice a year for a check-up and clean.

Naturally, we might see you more regularly if you’re undergoing a course of treatment to improve the health or cosmetic appearance of your teeth.

Routine care usually includes:

  • An examination of your teeth, gums, and mouth.
  • A conversation about your general health and any concerns you’ve got about the condition of your teeth, gums, and mouth.
  • Routine x-rays, helping us to spot and treat any areas of concern, before they become bigger problems.

Your dentist will give you recommendations about any treatments you need or might like to consider. Otherwise, if you’ve got any questions, feel free to ask.

Care between visits

To maintain good dental health, it’s important to brush and floss your teeth twice each day – once in the morning, and again before bed. That’s the basic information, but here are some additional tips to help you:

Brush before eating or wait for a good while after. The acid in foods can soften the enamel on your teeth, which isn’t something you want to brush away!

Use a soft-bristled brush. You don’t need a firm bristled brush if your technique is on point. Remember to change your brush at least every 2-3 months.

Start brushing from the back. The nooks and crannies between your molars make them more susceptible to gum disease and cavities.

Use a fluoride toothpaste. Fluoride is a leading defence against tooth decay, providing a protective barrier for teeth and fighting bacteria.

Use mouthwash or gum after eating. These can help to freshen your breath, reduce the number of bacteria in your mouth, and neutralise acids from food.

Don’t brush too often. Overbrushing can damage your gums and the enamel on your teeth, so brushing well twice a day really is enough.

Limit the sugar in your diet. When you do have sugary drinks or snacks, it’s better to have it all at once, limiting the exposure, rather than grazing throughout the day.

Eat tooth-friendly foods. Raw and fibrous things like carrots and apples can help to clean dental surfaces and promote the production of acid-neutralising saliva.

And, of course, make sure you keep up with your routine dental check-ups.
